The Show Must Go On

As I sat in the hospital last night until 1AM watching my grandfather die I truly did not think that I would get to the gym today. My first thought was that these are the times that you take to yourself and forget about life's schedule.

My day started by discussing plans on who would do what and when the specifics would be taken care of. It was this moment that I realized that making it to the gym was still part of my life and that taking 'time to yourself' for me, meant a peaceful hour at the gym ignoring the text messages and phone calls and simply pumping up the volume of my soca energy mix. The end result was a great work out full of 45 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of strength training. Today I hit the elliptical and the treadmill and then I headed over to do what some of my friends like to refer to as the crotch machine. I finished the workout with some crunches and weight lifting.

With the craziness that will come in the next couple of days I will feel better knowing that I was able to get a work out in today. Stay focused people! Your health deserves just as much attention as every other aspect of your life.

Today's post is dedicated to Seymour Murray Siegel...my G-pa :)

Dancing dissapointment

Ok so today I did the BodyJam class at my gym. Clearly I forgot how basic it was. My heart rate wasn't really doing much at all and the dance moves weren't all that interesting. Sadly I have to admit that I left the class halfway through because I figured I could have a more productive work out on my own.

I ventured into the strength training area and did a solid weight work out. I feel like my shoulders will be tense tomorrow but I know that it will all be worth it! Then I headed into the cardio area and did about 15 minutes on the treadmill to make up for the lack of cardio in the dance class. It was a bit of a lighter day today but I think I can make up for that by doing a body pump class tomorrow (killer).

Now let's see if I can stay healthy with my food choices for the rest of the day...especially with a girls night scheduled for tonight.

Stay tuned for the next update as I get CarnivalFit!

First Fit Post

Heading to Trinidad for Carnival 2k11 has inspired me to start a blog on my fitness regime in preparation for the 2 most enjoyable days of the year.

Here goes!

Today's workout included and enjoyable Zumba class as I got to move my hips to the saucy sounds of meringue, salsa and reggaeton. I have to admit that watching some of the older ladies at GoodLife fitness who join the morning class is one of the most humorous benefits of attending this class. My favourite of all is the older Jamaican lady who told me I have a nice bum and joked that this Zumba class has it's own Beyonce. Works for me!

After Zumba my work out buddy and I headed to the machine weights and pumped some iron lol I'm trying to work my legs right now and get a bit more definition in the thigh area.....the belly comes next.

My goals:
  • Lose 5 pounds in January
  • Lose another 5 pounds in February
  • Have some sexy lean legs to chip around TnT in!
Special thanks to my sister Mel, Krystal Khan and Kendra Kleiner who have already provided some support.
